Purpose of Position:

The CFO oversees all finance and accounting activities for the organization, is responsible for all aspects of financial compliance, strategy and systems, and serves as an internal consultant for program and business management, President/CEO and the Board. In addition, the CFO manages all areas of administrative support within the organization.

Examples of Duties:

  • Ensure, in close cooperation with the President/CEO, Finance Committee and Board that an appropriate financial policy framework is in place to guide financial decision making, with emphasis in the areas of investing, investing reserves, expense ratios and income mix questions
  • Lead the annual budgeting process; serve as a resource for the individual department budgets and assist the individual Directors as needed. Compile budget information from all the departments, complete the budget forecasts and review proposed budget with President/CEO and Leadership Team
  • Ensure the appropriateness of key assumptions included in financial planning and annual budget proposals. Provide advice to management, Finance Committee and Board as needed
  • Responsible for management and development of policies, systems, processes and supervision of personnel who report directly to CFO
  • Responsible for business and financial strategic planning
  • Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting standards
  • Ensure compliance with any and all financial and contract reporting requirements for private or public funding, licensing or regulatory agencies, including grants and fees for services
  • Ensure that tax returns and reports (Form 990, Form 990T, payroll reports, retirement plan reports, and any other tax reports as may be needed) are accurately prepared and filed timely
  • Maintain accounting records that will provide measurement of both the inputs and the outcomes of operations, including forecasting, budgeting and control systems
  • Monitor financial activities and prepare monthly comparison of actual to budget analysis
  • Work closely with the Facilities and Finance Committees, President/CEO, building and property management in the construction of the new building addition.

Qualifications:

  • MBA with emphasis on Finance or CPA
  • Minimum 10 years experience in financial management. (Non-profit experience desired)
  • Minimum 5 years staff supervision experience
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draft valid conclusions
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as statistical measures, proportions and percentages
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in a group setting
  • Confidence to offer ideas and solutions that are creative and cost effective
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to multitask, prioritize and work accurately while meeting deadlines.
