Counseling Services
Children as young as age four are welcome at NYFS. Our counseling
services include individual counseling, family therapy and play therapy
for the very young. Many of our clients and their families are coping
with multiple difficulties including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, domestic abuse and other family
related trauma. Basic psychiatric care and medication services are also
available.
Youth Employment Services
This 12-week work and life skills training program at our Penny
Pinchers Thrift Store serves youth ages 15-17 who have had few or no
positive work experiences. Many of these youth are also struggling with
learning disabilities, emotional disorders and other difficulties.
Senior Chore Program
Youth as young as age 12 can participate in this intergenerational work
program. Youth are matched with a local senior citizen in need of basic
chore services such as house cleaning, snow shoveling and yard work.
The youth gains valuable work experience while helping a senior citizen
live independently in their own home.
Summer Camp
NYFS offers a six-week summer camp program to youth in selected areas.
Children learn about others and about their world through crafts, games
and hands-on activities. For many, this is their only opportunity to
attend camp.
Diversion Services for Youth
The diversion program gives youth who are guilty of misdemeanor crimes
and status offenses a chance to make amends for the wrongs they have
done. An alternative to the traditional juvenile justice system, youth
are expected to perform community service, attend educational seminars
and, when appropriate, provide financial restitution for their actions.
Star Program
This school-based program is aimed at youth with emotional behavioral
disorders. By combining efforts with school staff through a positive,
strength-based approach we are able to help these youth reach their
full potential.
Net Services
NET Services is a daily, year-round, day treatment
program for youth that combines therapeutic services with educational
programming to address the needs of severely emotionally disturbed
youth. A program of Northwest Youth & Family Services, it is
administered in collaboration with School Districts 621, 622, 623, 624
and 12.
